COX, Lance Milton, 59, of Jersey City, passed on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Christ Hospital in Jersey City.
Lance Milton Cox was born on September 15, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to parents-Mildred and Daniel Cox. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary School to eventually attend Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Vietnam War. Lance served in the 101st Airborne, B Company, 4th Infantry Division. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as a Marksman (M-14). He was also awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Lance was honorably discharged in November 1970.
Following his discharge from the military, Lance attended Baruch College and studied Behavioral Science. Although he did not complete his study, he worked as a Counselor at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He later worked as a Counselor to a youth/peer population in various capacities throughout the New York/New Jersey area. Lance also worked as an independent income tax preparer.
Lance met Linda Denise Betsill on Thanksgiving evening in 1975. Upon meeting, they quickly became inseparable. Both entered into Holy Matrimony on July 20, 1979. Lukia Joy Cox was born to this marital union.
Lance was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY until he moved to Jersey City, NJ. He attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Jersey City, NJ.
Lance is survived by a loving and dedicated wife, Linda; daughter Lukia; grandson, Jaidon Cox. He is also survived by cousins, Raye Liverpool and Rochelle Liverpool and family. He is also survived by brother-in-law and wife, Lawrence Betsill and Marguerite Betsill; sister-in-law, Stamatia Betsill-Robinson. He leaves behind a host of loving family, friends and acquaintances.
