Givottam Kamat Obituary

Mr. Givottam S. Kamat, 76,of Dumont, NJ, and formerly of Fayetteville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 21st, 2019. He was the loving and devoted husband of 41 years to the late Dr. Lalita Kamat. A beloved father and grandfather, Givottam is survived by his daughter Lukshmi Kamat Puttanniah and his son-in-law Vinay Puttanniah, along with their children Arun, Devan, and Vera, who affectionately knew him as "Azo."
Born in 1942 in Madkai, Goa, India, he was the proud son the late Shridhar and Radhabai Kamat. He took great pride in the home and village where was born and raised, where his lifelong love of family, nature, and learning was fostered. He went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI) in Mumbai (Bombay), India, and then worked for the Bombay Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Corporation. In 1969, Givottam was the first person from his family to move to the United States, a courageous step that paved the way for others in his family to follow. He then received his Masters in Engineering from Cooper Union in New York and his MBA from Rutgers Business School. He worked as an engineer for GAF Corporation and Lummus Corporation and as a financial consultant for Prudential and always took great pride in his work.
Givottam will be remembered for his kind, patient, and loving nature and the way in which he prioritized family above all, exemplified by the care he showed his wife through her long battle with cancer. He was a proud and devoted father who instilled in his daughter the importance of strength and courage, which he showed throughout his life and in particular when he left his beloved home in India to pursue greater opportunities for himself and his family. He had a knack for optimism, always finding the positive even in difficult situations. He showed consistent gratitude for the opportunities he had been given in life, a tireless work ethic, and a strong belief in paying it forward by showing kindness and generosity to others in need.
