Agra Cremation serves the State of New Jersey & New York City. Our facility is centrally located in Jersey City’s vastly growing Hindu community. Throughout the year, we arrange many Hindu cremation services and facilitate every family with all available options in Hindu tradition. In the State of New Jersey and New York, 24 hours from time of death must expire before the initiation of the cremation process.

Crematory or Funeral Home Puja

We will transfer the deceased from the place of death, respond to your residence to sign all necessary documentation or if convenient express mail the necessary paperwork, file all necessary documents and place the deceased in an alternative container. Our staff or the family will dress the deceased.

We will arrange for the Pujari to perform the Puja at the crematory of your choice. The puja may also take place prior at our funeral home or a Prayer Hall. At the end of the ceremony, family members accompany the body to the retort room at the crematory. The body is then placed in the retort, which is ignited with the push of a button by a member of the family. Cremated remains will be available after 48 hours.

The Hindu Faith, Mourning, Burial at Sea and Cremation

Hindu death rituals in all traditions follow a fairly uniform pattern drawn from the Vedas, with variations according to sect, region, caste and family tradition. Most rites are fulfilled by the family, all of whom participate, including the children, who need not be shielded from the death. Certain rites are traditionally performed by a priest but may also be performed by the family if no priest is available. Here is a simple outline of rites that can be performed by Hindus in any locality. Variations are noted and suggestions made for Hindus in Western countries.
